Materials
- 3 tablespoon melted unsalted butter or ghee
- 1 cup Finger Millet/Ragi flour
- ½ cup sugar or to taste
- 2 cups milk
- ¼ teaspoon green cardamom powder
- Chopped nuts and raisins as per required optional
For Garnishing:
- Dry Fruits Chopped as per choice
- or
- chocolate syrup or chocolate chips or chocolate vermicelli as per choice
Instructions
- Melt the ghee in a heavy bottomed pan over medium heat.
- Add ragi flour and roast stirring continuously them until you get a roasted aroma.
- Add sugar and dry fruits and mix well.
- While you are roasting the ragi flour heat the milk separately in another pan.
- Add hot milk and cardamom powder stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
- Cook the mixture till it starts leaving the sides of the pan.
- Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool to a warm temperature.
- Transfer the Halwa to a serving dish.
- Garnish with chopped dry fruits or chocolate syrup and chocolate chips as per choice.

Method:

- Add ragi flour and roast over medium heat stir continuously until you get a roasted aroma.
- Add sugar and dry fruits.
- Mix well.
- Add hot milk and cardamom powder.
- Continue stirring the halwa to prevent lumps from forming.
- Cook the mixture till it starts leaving the sides of the pan.
- Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool to a warm temperature.

This Ragi Halwa Recipe is a great dish for toddlers and growing children since it is sweetened so you can also serve it after having Lemon Rice to have a sweet note at the end.
Note:
- As the Halwa cools it will thicken more if the Halwa looks dry then add hot milk as required.
- You can also add jaggery or date syrup instead of sugar.
- It requires constant stirring else it may form lumps.
- Add ghee little by little so that you can reduce the usage of ghee.
