Today I am going to share a post on one of the most popular South Indian Lemon Rice Recipe. Lemon Rice is one of the most popular and delicious South Indian rice dishes. Lemon Rice is a quick and easy-to-make dish. It is one of the most common dishes in South India.
You don’t need anything on the side since it tastes good own, but most people love it with Curd(plain yoghurt), Papad and chutney.
It can be made with leftover rice. Add some pappad on the side for a simple yet tasty meal. In this rice dish, Lemon juice gives a very refreshing and tangy flavour to the rice.

Lemon Rice is a savoury South Indian dish prepared with Lemon Juice and pre-cooked white rice. It is tempered with mustard seeds, red chilli, urad dal, and peanuts for flavour and crunch.
How to make South Indian Lemon Rice(step by step with photo)

Heat the oil in a wok over medium flame.
Now add red chilli, urad dal, chana dal, mustard seeds and peanuts and sauté till the dal turns golden brown in colour.
Add green chilli, ginger, Hing, curry leaves, and turmeric powder and continue to sauté for a minute.
Add cooked rice and salt and lemon juice and mix them well.
Lemon rice is ready to serve.
Garnish it with Peanuts and serve it warm.

Lemon rice is typically served with plain yoghurt, papad and pickle on the side.
You can enjoy it as such too, it doesn’t really need many accompaniments.
Suggestions:
- You can also add cashews to this lemon rice for that extra crunch and taste.
- You can also make it using leftover rice.
- If you are cooking rice freshly, be aware of not overcooking it. Rice should not be mushy.
- Once you cooked the rice, ensure the rice is cooled completely before you mix the tempering. Mixing hot rice often makes it mushy. So cool it.

To Reheat. Gently rewarm rice in a pan on the stovetop over medium-low heat. Stir frequently, and add splashes of water If the rice becomes dry. You can also reheat it in the microwave.

It is best to make it a few hours before eating. I would not recommend storing or keeping it for a long time.

South Indian Lemon Rice Recipe
Materials
- 1.5 cup rice boiled
- 1 tablespoon oil/ghee
- 1-2 dry red chill
- 2 teaspoon Split Bengal gram chana dal
- 2 teaspoon black gram urad dal
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds rai
- 1 tablespoon peanuts Mongphali dana
- 1 teaspoon chopped ginger
- 1 teaspoon chopped green chilli
- 10-12 curry leaf
- 1/4 teaspoon Asafetida Hing
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder haldi
- salt to taste
- 1-2 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a wok over medium flame.
- Now add red chilli, urad dal, chana dal, peanuts and mustard sedds and sauté till the dal turns golden brown in colour.
- Add green chilli, ginger, curry leaves hing and turmeric powder and continue to sauté for a minute.
- Add cooked rice and salt, turmeric and mix them well.
- Finally, add lemon juice and mix well. cook for 1-2 minute.
- Lemon Rice is ready to serve.
- Serve with yoghurt and salad.
