What Is Fruit Raita?

Fruit Raita is a healthy and delicious accompaniment prepared by soothing yoghurt with all the sweetness, sourness and crunch of diced fresh fruits like apples, pineapple, pomegranate etc.

How to make Fruit Raita:

Ingredient:

Curd:

You can use cold or chilled dairy or vegan, low-fat, full-fat, or Greek yoghurt as per your choice. I have used Homemade Yogurt with full-fat milk for this recipe.
If you like: low-fat raita: use low-fat yoghurt.
For creamy texture raita: use full-fat yoghurt.
For thick fruit raita: use Greek or hung yoghurt to make this raita.

Fruits:

We can add a variety of fruits to this raita. However, use sweet and ripe fruits for their natural sweetness. I have added, Pomegranate, apple and banana to this raita. You can also add more delicious and flavorful fruit to the raita, like grapes, Pineapple etc.

Sugar:

Sugar: I have added raw sugar. You can also use white sugar, cane sugar, or natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.
If you do not like sugar, you can skip it, and your mixed fruit raita will still be delicious with naturally sweetened fruits.

Salt and Cumin Powder:

Salt adds a pleasant contrast to the fruit raita. However, add only a little to enhance the raita flavour. We can also add black salt and Roasted cumin powder for a more earthy flavour. For more flavour options, you can add chat masala, amchur powder, red chilli powder etc.

Method:

  • In a bowl, whisk the yoghurt (curd) till smooth. Use the curd that is fresh and it should not be sour tasting.
  • Add sugar or as required. Mix the sugar well, till it dissolves.
  • Next add roasted cumin powder, salt, black salt, and roasted cumin powder to the curd. Stir well.
  • Lastly add the chopped banana, apple and pomegranate arils. Mix well.
  • You can garnish the raita with pomegranate arils or mint leaves if you like.
Serve the Fruit Raita immediately or let it chill in the fridge until the time of serving.
